Life provides many positive challenges and possibilities, which are ours if we have the courage to take them.  The aim of self-development is to live life creatively, spontaneously and with vision. These weekly psychodrama workshops are for those who want to explore and enter into the deeper aspects of self with the aim of developing greater strength, vitality and more effective relationships with self and others. There are opportunities to develop new roles and perspectives, acknowledge, celebrate and value old roles and to resolve minor conflicts of living in your personal or professional life.

Sue is a trainer, educator and practitioner of psychodrama, a psychologist, psychotherapist and supervisor in private practice.  Sue conducts workshops and training seminars worldwide.  She is the director of the Psychodrama Institute of Melbourne, Chairperson of the Australian and Aotearoa Board of Psychodrama and a member of the Board of Directors of the IAGP.

1. IAGP Board Elections 2012-2015

Sue Daniel is elected to the Board of Directors of the International Association of Group Psychotherapy and Group Processes for a further term.  She commences this new phase on the Board at the IAGP Congress in Cartagena, Colombia 21 July 2012.

The IAGP's next international conference will be held in Colombia and will offer a unique possibility to get in touch with the most recent developments in group psychotherapy and group processes. It will focus especially on the topic of social transformation, putting emphasis on the vision of J.L. Moreno, S. Foulkes and K. Levin, to apply our competences also on the scale of social or collective groups. We invite all of you: researchers, educators, psychotherapists, students and other professionals from around the world and across borders to come together, to learn from each other and to hopefully grow in our professional and human dimensions. Waxing Lyrical!

A word can change the world.       

Words are art, even more-so with the accompaniment of music. The combination of the beautiful (or beautifully ugly) words and the beautiful (or beautifully ugly) music can create an emotional experience within each individual. We sway, thrash, dance, hum, scream along.

We take meaning, often very personal and subjective (but never wrong) from what we hear. Such an encounter cannot help but change us, regardless of desire for change or otherwise.

The wonder of the lyrical encounter can be a source of inspiration capable of giving the gifts of laughter, tears and anything betwixt.

This session aims to explore the impact of lyrics to songs on all who arrive, on culture and on sub culture. Come with your favourites or sup on those provided (spontaneity in action) and explore what dwells within the magic of lyric and the magic of our responses to lyric.

Lets experience beautiful lyrics together.

Celebrating in PIM

Rachael Zyznikow and Jun Maeda celebrated receiving their certificates in May.  Rachael is now an accredited Psychodrama-Assistant and Jun has his Auxiliary-Ego certificate.  Rachael's paper 'Beautiful Mirroring' is number 90 in the library.  Jun's paper on his development of psychodrama in Hokkaido, Japan will arrive soon.  Lorraine Michael presented a paper for the Eric Seal Lecture at St Vincent's Hospital.  It was well accepted and a contingent from PIM enjoyed the seminar and the lunch.

The Future of Facebook was born in 1932

Here is a link which our "blogmeister" sent me today referencing Jacob Levy Moreno as the progenitor of Facebook.  Pretty nifty!

"The four bubbles on the left are the world's first sociogram, penned by a psychotherapist named Jacob Moreno in 1932. He was examining an epidemic of runaways at the Hudson School for Girls: fourteen girls had run away in two weeks. Instead of examining each case individually, he mapped all fourteen girls on a graph, showing how the each case socially influenced the others, eventually leading to a social kind of epidemic.

As you may have noticed, it looks an awful lot like Facebook's social graph. Each person is a node, each friendship is a line, and the full map shows you where everyone stands. In the 80 years since, they've gotten a lot more complicated (e.g. the diagram on the right), but the basic ideas are all there, from status updates to joining and leaving groups. As any Klout user can tell you, the metric of "social influence" is still alive and well. And for anyone skeptical about the social graph, it's a powerful reminder: people have been at this for quite a while, and modern social networks are barely scratching the surface."
