Love and Blessings to Bob and Linda - Our Heroes
Dear Sue,
We were surprised to get your email about your change of address - lots of new things happening. We shall miss seeing you at Simpson Street as there as some lovely memories we hold dear from there. We hope you settle in to your new home well and that 2015 is a great year for you.
We recently received notification that we were both to be awarded the National Emergency medal for our contribution on Black Saturday and the 2009 fires. The presentation was last Sunday and it was quite amazing - the boys and Bob's daughter Meg came and were very complimentary and congratulated us. It was bigger than I expected, very formal. They called us heroes - I was very moved. Daniel has taken the attached photos and I have taken a close up photo of the medals, both the new Commonwealth Emergency Services medal and my CFA (Country Fire Authority) 10 year service medal. I feel very proud to have something like this to hand down to the family. I felt nervous and quite emotional during the ceremony remembering a lot of what happened during the period of the 2009 fires and that stayed with me for some time afterwards. Others clearly felt the same as me. This ceremony gives us some added sense of closure and reframes our experience somewhat.
Have a wonderful and safe Christmas, and we look forward to seeing you new year.
Love and Best Wishes,
Linda and Bob xoxo
